Prof. Timothy Frerichs “Migration”

State University of New York at Fredonia, USA

Time: 8-16, October 2025
Location: Gallery „Akademija“, Vilnius, Lithuania

The selected artworks include works on paper and artist books specifically created for this exhibition. The Migration Pages respond to the Lithuanian National Bird – the White Stork and their migration route to Southern and Central Africa. Imbedded archival digital print are historical maps of Lithuania dating from the 1600’s to the 1960. Special thank you to Dr. Mindaugas Dagys, Head of Laboratory of Avian Ecology, at the Nature Center for access to his Movebank mapping imagery of the white stork tracking project. The mapping imagery is represented in several forms in the Migration Pages and Artist books. Additionally, the exhibition includes selected artist books and works on paper representing my working process. – Prof. Timothy Frerichs.

For Prof. Timothy Frerichs as a creator, the idea and concept of an “Artist’s book” is very important, but so is the implementation of that concept, its realization using different materials and objects found in nature. In his prints, he combines different printing techniques, drawing, and collage, transforming all of this into a spatial art installation. He is a highly educated and cultured artist who has held many solo exhibitions and received international awards and scholarships. His artworks are included in collections in both America and Europe.

Prof. Timothy Frerichs has participated in the Erasmus+ program in Europe and America on several occasions. In 2023, he gave a lecture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts and held a creative workshop on artist’s books entitled “Material as Content: An Artist’s Book.”

Prof. Timothy Frerichs is coming to Lithuania with his personal exhibition. The artist’s books and print installations on the theme of “Migration” will be on display for two weeks at the Vilnius Academy of Arts gallery “Akademija”. This is a great opportunity for students, the academic community, and the public not only to see the exhibition, but also to meet the artist Prof. Timothy Frerichs.
