at the Leipzig Book Fair

The last day in Leipzig Book Fair 2024 was Sunday. It is normal. And this Sunday was the Palm Sunday. It happens… So, before driving from my village to the Leipzig Book Fair, I lived 50 km outside Leipzig because it was cheaper to live in a small hostel, I decided to go to church. I found Palm Sunday Mass in the small town of Bitterfield. And during the Holy Mass, I felt that it had already happened once. I began to wonder when. And then I remembered that it happened in 1997 when I participated for the first time in the Leipzig Book Fair with an exhibition of Lithuanian artist’s books. Then I went to Leipzig by bus (full of drunks) and with a suitcase full of books by Lithuanian artists. There, in Leipzig, I installed the exhibition and also had a talk about artist’s books in Lithuania. The last day of the Leipzig Book Fair was Sunday, 23 of March, 1997. And it was Palm Sunday… And I went to church in Leipzig, Spinnerei.

27 years ago, in 1997, when I first time participated in the Leipzig Book Fair with artist’s books, it was Palm Sunday. And now, in 2024, when I am organizing the last “Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius” at the Leipzig Book Fair, and it is my last time in Leipzig, it was Palm Sunday again.
