The Last Destination

I’m at the airport in America and waiting for a flight home, to Lithuania. How many times I was waiting for flight, drinking coffee, looking out the window into the rain in the evening, or drove the car on unknown roads with artist’s books in it. And every time strange feelings flooded me… Travels with the artist’s books is not just exhibitions, lectures, workshops in abroad or in Lithuania. It’s much more than that. It’s an unpredictable adventure that leads to the unknown places, meeting with new strange and wonderful people, frustrations and discoveries. Meeting with yourself on dark road at night. Sometimes it seemed like that is an impossible mission. Perhaps often… But, like wrote one “Philosopher”: “If God with us who against us…” Romans 8:31.

But today I left the “8th International Artist’s Book Triennial Vilnius 2018” in the Reed Library of the State University of New York at Fredonia for four weeks. After the exhibition in Fredonia we will start to return artist’s books with the catalogues to the artists.

The Reed Library at Fredonia – the last destination of the 8th Artist’s Book Triennial with the title “Memento Mori”.

The 8th Artist’s Book Triennial was shown eight times in different art spaces in two years. In 2018 in the Leipzig Book Fair, Germany; in the Book Festival in Urbino, Italy; in The Martynas Mazvydas National Library of Lithuania in Vilnius. In 2019, the exhibition was on display in “Museo Leone” in Vercelli, Italy; in the Gallery SG in Venice, Italy; in the Plunge Municipal Clock Tower Library, Lithuania; in the Evanston Art Center and Reed Library of the State University of New York at Fredonia, in USA.

We could not have done all these Exhibitions without the help and support of our Friends. I am very thankful.

We thank all the artists who take part in our Artist’s Book Triennials. You make the Artist’s Book Triennial great and important for all of us.
