On 14th of December 2011 Prof. Joseph Johannes Visser from The Netherlands gave the lecture at Vilnius Academy of Arts.

The theme of Prof. Joseph Johannes Visser was “The Geo Milev – SEPTEMVRI Project”.

An artist’s-book with the complete poem in linocut-prints & the new translations into English and Dutch by Joseph J. Visser, and into German by Monika Götze of ‘SEPTEMVRI’, a Poem by Geo Milev (Bulgaria, 1885 – 1925), a true modern-European philosopher, as it was executed and published in 2011 in a cooperative effort of ‘carpe plumbum’, Leipzig, Germany and ‘Atelier It Plein 19′ – Easterlittens, The Netherlands. The poem is a cry for a humane society, as a reaction against the violence used by government-forces when bringing down the September-uprising against the self-appointed fascist regime”.

After the International Artist’s Book Workshop professors and international students participated in 3 days journey in Lithuania.

“Art project “International Artist‘s Book Creative Workshop” of the programme “Vilnius – European Capital of Culture 2009” will start in Vilnius on the 15th of October.
The participants of the project leaded by art professionals from foreign countries will create objects that extend the form and expression of the book – one of the main objects of culture.

The book is not only the form of literature art

“The book can give us new, not traditional meanings, become the object of attention where the idea and recognition, expressions of feelings of creators are important. It happens when the artist touches the book and kind of distances it from commercial forms. Then the book gains the provocative, unexpected form and sometimes content,” spoke the curator of the project doc. Kestutis Vasiliunas about the conception of artist’s book.

36 young artists from Lithuania and foreign countries will participate in the project. They will be leaded by the famous and awarded creators of different profiles: the teacher of Kampen Academy for fine Arts Joseph Johannes Visser (Holland), the professor of Kyungwon University of Arts and Design Chang-Soo Kim (South Korea) and the professor of Musashino University of Arts Wayne Andrew Crothers (Australia) who teaches in Japan and Australia.

During one week project the international group of young artists will be introduced with the history of specific interdisciplinary art sphere – artist‘s book, schools and traditions of art of different countries. Students will implement their ideas by creating traditional artist‘s books or books-objects.”
